US Coast Guard reports drop in ballast water deficiencies

The US Coast Guard's Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance has released its 2023 Port State Control Annual Report, showing a decrease in ballast water management deficiencies among vessels trading in US waters. The report indicates a 29% decrease in non-compliance violations compared to the previous year, indicating concerted efforts by vessel operators and regulatory authorities. Bulk carriers, chemical tank ships, and container ships were the most affected. The Enhanced Examination Program (EEP) has been instrumental in addressing non-compliance, with examinations for ballast water reducing BWMS deficiencies. The Coast Guard remains committed to tackling ballast water management challenges through continued vigilance and strategic enforcement measures.
